Ciliate aster is a heart-leaved aster of northern woodlands and forest edges. It grows on well-drained, sandy or rocky soil, or on dry, loamy soil. It grows in small clumps and readily re-seeds. It produces attractive clusters of blue flowers that appear in late summer and early autumn.
